Hello, I’m Jane M. Braat BSc — photographer, former medical illustrator, and founder of Soul of Alba Photography.
My creative journey began with studying HND Photography in Glasgow, where I developed a deep appreciation for visual storytelling, atmosphere, and the emotional power of imagery. I later went on to study science and worked professionally as a medical illustrator, combining creativity with precision, observation, and a fascination with the human experience.
Photography has always been more than simply capturing an image for me. It is about emotion, memory, connection, and truth. I feel deeply the sorrow, pain, resilience, beauty, and joy that exist within people, places, and history, and through my work I hope to share those emotions honestly and meaningfully.
I have a particular passion for Scottish history and how Scotland’s past continues to shape its identity, culture, and future. Scotland’s landscapes, stories, and spirit are a constant source of inspiration in my photography and creative work. I am drawn not only to what is seen, but to what is felt — the atmosphere of a place, the echoes of history, and the quiet moments that stay with us.
Soul of Alba was created as a space for reflection, creativity, and connection — bringing together photography, storytelling, heritage, and thoughtful living. The name Alba, the ancient Gaelic name for Scotland, represents both heritage and new beginnings, which lies at the heart of everything I create.
My fine art prints are intended to bring a sense of depth, atmosphere, and emotional connection into the home — images that carry feeling as much as beauty.
Thank you for visiting and supporting independent creative work.
