Rising from the windswept moor, this solitary cairn stands as a silent marker of one of the most significant and tragic chapters in Scottish history. Set against the vast expanse of Culloden Battlefield, it marks the ground where clansmen fell during the final Jacobite Rising of 1746, a conflict that forever altered the Highlands and the course of Scotland’s story.

The simplicity of the cairn is what makes it so powerful. Surrounded by open grassland and beneath an ever-changing Highland sky, it serves as a place of remembrance rather than celebration—a quiet tribute to those who fought and died on this historic ground.

In processing this image, I chose a warm, muted palette that enhances the atmosphere of reflection and memory.
