The Clachan Inn sits right in the heart of Drymen and is one of those places that feels full of character before you even know its history. First licensed in 1734, it’s known as one of Scotland’s oldest pubs, with a long connection to the village and the people who have passed through it over the centuries.

What I love about this building is how simple and traditional it feels. The whitewashed walls, slate roof and colourful window boxes give it such a warm, welcoming look, and there’s something about it that instantly feels like old Scotland.

The inn is also linked to the story of Rob Roy MacGregor, which adds even more character to the place. Knowing that history while standing in front of it makes the building feel like more than just a pub — it feels like part of the village’s story.

I wanted this photograph to capture that sense of history without losing the everyday charm of the scene. The soft light and warm tones help bring out the character of the building while keeping the image natural and true to how the place felt when I photographed it.

Each photograph is carefully refined in post-production with restraint, enhancing light, texture and atmosphere while preserving the authentic character and enduring spirit of this remarkable Scottish landmark.
