Beneath Edinburgh Skies | Princes Street Gardens
Beneath Edinburgh Skies | Princes Street Gardens
There is a timeless charm to Edinburgh where rows of historic stone buildings rise above the calm greenery of Princes Street Gardens. This piece captures the layered beauty of the city’s skyline — gothic spires, weathered façades, and elegant Victorian architecture standing beneath vast Scottish skies filled with shifting light and atmosphere.
In processing this image, I leaned into a warm, painterly aesthetic with muted sepia tones and softened contrast to preserve the romantic character of the scene. By emphasising the textures of the historic architecture against the softness of the gardens below, I wanted to evoke the feeling of Edinburgh as both a living city and a place suspended in time. The layered composition and dramatic cloud formations create a sense of depth and quiet grandeur, while the gardens bring balance and stillness to the heart of the capital.
Each image is carefully refined in post-production with restraint — shaping tonal balance, colour harmony, and texture to preserve the natural atmosphere of the scene. The intention is never to exaggerate, but to distil — allowing the history and spirit of place to emerge with clarity and depth.
