The story behind the photograph

Viewed from above, Gourock’s coastline curves towards its historic pier and harbour, framed by the hills and mountains beyond the Firth of Clyde. The meeting of town, sea and distant landscape reflects Scotland’s enduring connection to the water.

In processing this image, I used golden highlights and softened contrast to bring out the layered textures of the waterfront and mountain ridges. Reflective water and dramatic clouds balance a sense of calm with the changing character of the western shores.
